Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity was set up by his widow in 1990 and raises funds so that every seriously ill child has the best possible healthcare. The work the charity does includes Roald Dahl children’s nurses, who provide care and support to seriously ill children and their families. Based in hospitals across the UK, they are specialists in their fields. Roald Dahl nurses support children living with a variety of serious, rare and undiagnosed conditions. Marvellous Family Grants are for families facing financial hardship while caring for a child with a serious illness. They provide support to help families cope, from respite breaks and counselling to hospital travel expenses. Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity is able to support innovative nurse-led research projects. Their aim through the Marvellous Nurse Inventing Room is to improve the quality of care for seriously ill children and young people. The programme also helps to improve skills in leadership, research and project management for nurses.
Fundraising events are held throughout the year for the charity, on September 13th this year schools and groups across the globe are encouraged to dress up as their favourite Roald Dahl hero, hold a party, and donate their marvellous money to Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.
The website is full of ideas and handy resources for both parents and teachers, including a poster, lesson ideas, certificates and how to pay in your donations after the event.
