It is well known that a child’s learning takes a dip and falls behind over the long summer holidays. A great way to stop this happening is by encouraging your child to keep reading during the break. Each year the Reading Agency run the Summer Reading Challenge, each book your child reads can be recorded online in your own account and there are prizes to be won along the way.
The theme for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge is ‘Mischief Makers’, inspired by the popular ‘Beano’ comic, which is celebrating it’s 80th anniversary.
To take part your child can read whatever books they choose, as long as they are borrowed from the library. The Reading Agency website also has lots of suggestions to help you decide and a selection of books are in an accessible format for those with a print impairment. The Summer Reading Challenge is open to all primary school aged children and starts on Saturday July 14th.
